Meet Jim and Sue Shepley.People have wondered why we moved here from a home only a mile away and while we were in good health with no apparent need of health care. I’m glad you asked! We didn’t want the thing that made us ready for this place—health concerns—to be the very thing that would prevent us from qualifying for the life care program. We had a life outside of here with family, church and business activities, so we didn’t need what we thought people who moved in here needed. Was I wrong! We’ve made at least 100 new friends and have become more involved than we had ever expected. A day in the life of Jim and Sue Shepley.Sue is active on the Dining Committee and attends weekly Bible study. She also takes the coach to the symphony’s “Morning Classic” series. I am on the Hospitality and Lifestyle Committees. We go to “Flexercise” and aqua aerobics, and often putt on our 18-hole championship putting course. We can and do take the coach to concerts, plays and a variety of activities that our lifestyle director plans. The coach takes us to the front door and picks up later to bring us home. No driving, no parking. You can’t beat that!
When we take a trip, all we do is lock our door and go. Security, maintenance and housekeeping all continue as though we were here. No problem with pool maintenance, landscaping, pest control, etc. We have a bank off the lobby with a full array of services. I continue all my activity with family, church and business—indeed, I have more time. What more could you want? I retired but I wanted my wife to be able to retire, too—at least from the majority of what had been her responsibilities and activities involving home ownership. She told me was hard to prepare meals for just two people. No more! At Classic Residence by Hyatt, I order a filet mignon, while she has the barbecued salmon. We both get different appetizers, soups, salads, vegetables and desserts. What a deal! And tomorrow it will be something else. You might think that any place where you dine a lot would become ordinary or tiresome. We’ve been at Classic Residence by Hyatt for more than three years, and I still look forward to dinner. We haven’t needed the care center yet, but are glad to know it’s here in case we do. Our daughters thought we were moving into a nursing home when they heard of our choice. Now they think we are living at a resort. Life is good! |
