Meet Kay Schulz.

Scottsdale - Schulz
Position: Care Center Administrator
Hometown: Fountain Hills, AZ (Wisconsin native)
Community: Scottsdale, AZ
Interests and Activities: Hiking, family time
Family: Husband, two adult sons and two grandchildren

In my role as Director of Nursing during the past six years at Classic Residence by Hyatt, I was actively involved in quality assurance throughout the care center. It is with pride that I look at our staff and the excellent care that they provide to ensure that our residents have the best possible quality of life in a beautiful environment.

As Care Center Administrator, I now have the opportunity to look objectively at our community and services as well as to work with our staff on special projects, such as our “Sentience Experience” in skilled nursing. The lives of our residents who have cognitive impairments have been dramatically improved through the sensory experiences offered in this environment.

We take pride in recruiting and hiring staff members who have that special caring attitude, which is readily recognized and appreciated by our residents and families. I look forward to going to work each day at Classic Residence by Hyatt and to continuing to learn.

A day in the life of Kay Schulz.

8:00 a.m.: In recognition of our excellent surveys in skilled nursing, we received a grant from the Arizona Department of Health Services to establish a project to improve the quality of life of our residents. As Care Center Administrator, I have further developed our “Sentience Experience” to include a mural and enhanced staff training. Relaxation is promoted through gentle stimulation of the senses: sight, smell, hearing, touch and movement. The lives of our residents have been greatly enhanced in this sensory environment.

10:00 a.m.: I have the opportunity to monitor compliance and recognize areas requiring more teaching/training of nursing and ancillary team members. Staff members are always eager to learn new things and to enhance their ability to deliver quality care.

2:00 p.m.: Our community has a pleasant residential feel, and good clinical service and quality care are also vitally important. I work closely with the licensed staff on matters related to compliance with clinical care and documentation standards.

4:00 p.m.: My years of clinical and management experience have been rewarding and enjoyable. I have grown both personally and professionally over the years. Yet, there is so much to continue to learn in the areas of resident care and quality of life, human resources, finance, physical environment and atmosphere, and leadership and management.
