Classic Residence by Hyatt in Plantation Honored Local Seniors for Participating in the President's Challenge Fitness Program

Melissa Johnson, Executive Director of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and Olympic Athlete Bob Beamon Delivered Keynote Speeches

PLANTATION, FL, MAY 26, 2005

On Tuesday, May 24 at 8:00 p.m., Classic Residence by Hyatt in Plantation honored 70 older adults who participate in the President's Challenge fitness program at a black tie gala held at the luxury senior living community. Along with the presentation of the President's Challenge fitness awards, highlights of the evening included the unveiling of the Classic Residence by Hyatt Fitness Hall of Fame and keynote speeches from Melissa Johnson, executive director of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, and Olympic record holder Bob Beamon. 

Of the 70 participants, approximately 30 residents of Classic Residence by Hyatt in Plantation achieved the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award by completing five fitness activities per week. Another five residents received the Presidential Champions Bronze Award by averaging 10 to 15 fitness activities per week.

The President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports (PCPFS) strives to make the health and fitness of all Americans a national priority. President Dwight D. About Bob Beamon: On October 23, 1968, Bob Beamon made track and field history by setting a world long jump record that stood for 23 years. His record is considered one of the greatest athletic achievements of all time. Sports Illustrated honored Beamon for performing one of the top five individual athletic achievements of the 20th century. Beamon was elected to the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1983 and is currently a member of the United States Olympic Committee.
